You cannot fake chic but you can be chic in fake leather —Karl Lagerfield

Growing up if you wore faux, aka “pleather” you bore the brunt of the jokes.

People would laugh hysterically. But boy times have changed and you see faux leather in everything from fashion, furniture, vehicles, upholstery and everything in between. Lets’ breakdown the definition of faux. What is faux leather? Faux Leather is also called PU, PVC and also Vegan leather all the same to me. However, according the so-called experts there are a few differences. Faux leather is fabric in nature. Its artificial and treated which gives it the texture as well as appearance of real leather. The entire product is man-made and doesn’t harm any animals in the process.

This Faux leather trend is here to stay. I love the versatility and has been great for me. I do remember back in the day I would rock leather pants, jackets and skirts. Omg, I thought I was the” ish” with my leather on. I have noticed its hard to find genuine leather these days. With the increasing trend of rejecting animal products for ethical reason, faux leather has gained an immense amount of popularity globally. “They say it doesn’t matter how the animals are being raised or how leather is being tanned. Like fur, leather is simply something no one should buy or wear”. Well, this is another topic and will take more energy to discuss.

Faux leather is definitely the go to material for fall and winter. Its a trend you need to add now. I mean, faux leather is all over the place and so many designers are incorporating it in the new designs and trends.  Not too long ago, I would only see leggings, and biker jackets like this one or this. But now faux leather is all the rage from tops, to dresses, to skirts to trousers, paper bag pants, and more. I’m so happy to see how much we have to choose from!

WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT THIS LOOK? I PERSONALLY LOVE HOW THE LEGGINGS LOOK WITH THE OVERSIZED BLAZER. HOWEVER, IF YOU PAIR THE BLAZER WITH DENIM OR SKIRT THEY WILL ALSO LOOK AMAZING.

There are few tips I wanted to share on wearing Faux Leather trends to add to your closet now.

FOLLOW THESE THREE TIPS AND YOU WILL LOVE FAUX LEATHER AS MUCH AS I DO.

MY TOP THREE TIPS

Tip one is to embrace your body when wearing faux leather. Faux leather bottoms especially leggings can be rather flattering. I have always been self conscious of my curves. But as get older, I’m beginning to care less and show what God gave me. So yes they show a tad more body, well they are more fitted I would say. Which is okay, if that’s your preference. I typically cover up leggings with a top, blazer or jacket. You do not have to stick with black either. Embrace your body in different colors and textures of faux leather. More on textures in Tip three.

Tip two is size up which is another factor you can play with to get your faux leather game just right. Again, this applies to leggings and pants. Also, moto/biker jackets could be sized up. I wear a size small but when it comes to jackets, blazer and sometimes coats– I get larger sizes. At times, I’ve also worn two sizes larger. I love wearing oversized clothes especially jackets but this is definitely a personal preference. I don’t like super tight clothes either and faux leather is one of those materials that doesn’t have much stretch or give— so sizing up is the best thing to do on certain items.

Tip three is a fun one; balance the shine of faux leather with other textures. Faux leather leggings with shiny satin or sequins is only appropriate in Vegas or on stage.  For the everyday, you want to tone the shine of the faux leather down.  Fleece, chunky knit sweaters, cashmere, denim, and angora are all great fabrics to pair with the leggings to keep the look luxe yet relatable. But a faux leather jacket or coat can be paired with that extra shine. Depending on your personal style you could add texture in shoes, booties or with a blazer like I did in this look. Snakeskin or any animal print will always add a pop too any piece. The great thing about faux leather is that it’s the perfect canvas for making your accessories stand out so tone them down.

The truth is that the options with Faux leather leggings and pants are endless! I mean, just think about how good they look with a blazer and sweater in the same color! It would totally be the perfect monochromatic look and top it off with a funky trench coat in the fall and winter!

Even before the season started, I was on the lookout for fun colorful faux leather pieces. You know I love color guys but of course, you could always mix up the typical black leggings like these stretch ones or mix it up with mini skirts and even shorts. However, when I saw these at Target and these for under $20 in my favorite color I got goose bumps.

The color is absolutely stunning and I loved the fact that can be easily dressed up or down. You can wear faux leather leggings or pants on a casual night out with friends, date night, to a day appointment or even weddings. It’s all about how you style them and what you pair with them. I love the faux leather wet looks ones for date night. The faux leather leggings can also be worn with:
